Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 13, 2026

1. Overview

Adrift is a digital ship log application for leisure sailors and motor boat owners. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you when you use the Adrift website and application.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information such as your name, email address, and profile image.
  • Authentication information provided by Google Sign-In or email code login.
  • Content you create in the app, including boat details, voyage entries, waypoints, notes, photos, and maintenance records.
  • Precise location and GPS track points when you choose to record foreground navigation or save a map position.
  • Subscription and purchase status supplied by Stripe, Apple, or Google so we can verify and provide paid features.
  • Community safety information such as content reports, block relationships, moderation decisions, and a contact email when an anonymous viewer submits a report.
  • Offline copies, queued changes, downloaded Mapbox regions, and sign-in state stored locally on your device.
  • Technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, and basic usage logs needed to operate and secure the service.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve Adrift.
  • Authenticate users and keep accounts secure.
  • Store and display voyage and boat data at your direction.
  • Record foreground GPS tracks, synchronize offline changes, and make selected chart areas available without a connection.
  • Verify purchases, restore subscriptions, and prevent duplicate entitlements across billing providers.
  • Send transactional emails such as sign-in codes and account-related notices.
  • Diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and monitor service reliability.
  • Review reported public content, enforce blocks, and respond to legal, privacy, or safety concerns.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers that help us operate Adrift, such as hosting, database, file storage, email delivery, authentication, Mapbox mapping, and Apple, Google, or Stripe billing providers. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the security and integrity of the service.

5. Public and Private Content

Voyages and related content are private by default unless you choose to make them publicly shareable. If you publish or share content publicly, that content may be accessible to anyone with the public link or page.

6. Data Retention

We retain account and application data for as long as necessary to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your application content and revoke device sessions. Limited billing or transaction records may be retained or pseudonymized where required for tax, fraud prevention, refunds, or other legal obligations. Limited moderation records may also be retained to document safety decisions and prevent repeated abuse. Offline copies remain on a device until the app data is cleared or the app is removed.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Choices

You may update certain profile information inside the app. You may permanently delete your account in Settings after fresh email-code confirmation, or use our public deletion page at /delete-account. You may also contact us to request access or correction, subject to applicable law and our ability to verify the request. Store subscriptions must be canceled separately with Apple, Google, or Stripe.

9. Third-Party Services

Adrift relies on third-party providers, including Google for authentication, Mapbox for map styles and offline map tiles, Apple and Google for native app billing, Stripe for web billing, and cloud providers for hosting, storage, and email delivery. Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

10. Children's Privacy

Adrift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date on this page and may provide additional notice when appropriate.
